Alex Bender's review of audio recording:

Nice show. Shield Your Eyes has the usual stop/start E chord riff in the opening and ending parts of the song. Million and Condition Oakland are good versions of songs that didn't get played as regularly as others. The band plays two new numbers - For Esme (which gets introduced as "Esme Needs Her Story") and Gemini. This version of For Esme contains intact lyrics, unlike the Live 4/30/96 LP version. Parabola has a lot of intense screaming. Bivouac has a rewritten ending which contains calmer, twinkly guitar motifs interspersed between the louder sections; parts of it sound improvised, of course. Generally, Blake's between-song banter sounds more awkward than witty or amusing.

Sound-wise, this show is great for an audience recording, although some static-like sounds are evident in the last half. My copy of the show is in MP3 form; the MP3s were sourced from a cassette tape. The crowd noise is low throughout, and all of the instruments and vocals are very clear. There seem to be some cuts in between songs, but it seems that only down-time has been excised; there is ample talking from Blake throughout. This version of Gemini was circulating in MP3 form a few years ago, and was also at the time being copied onto homemade "rarities" cassette compilations (this is evident from Blake's introduction to the song, in which he asks if there are any Geminis in the crowd and proceeds to give away a book of some sort).

I saw them twice, both shows were amazing. The second time I saw them, Dear You hadn't been out that long and there were lots of hipster dipshits there (this was in Chapel Hill, NC) they complained pretty much any "new" song was played and were bitching so much that when they started playing BIVOUAC, they were remarking about how "this new bullshit doesn't sound as good as the old stuff"... morons. Any how, back to the Jawbreaker stuff, they played a little bit of everything during the two sets that I saw it was great, they played with Fluf the second time.

How great it was to hear Bivouac live. Seeing everybody get really excited on the fast songs...they ended the set after Blake had broken all of his guitar strings except for one (i believe) they left and came back on stage, Chris and Adam sat down on the stage with water and Blake played the unlisted last track from Dear You. It was awesome. Everybody was sweaty and tired (including the crowd) it was quite nice. Some other people started yelling "ONE MORE SONG" and Blake just turned around and yelled "I would, but I don't have any more guitar strings! We can't play anymore!" But people kept yelling for more songs...
